Actor. Appearing on stage and screen, Tutin was born in London and made her professional debut in The Thistle and the Rose in 1949, after which she joined the Bristol Old Vic. Her work at the Old Vic in London led to her first movie role as Cecily opposite Michael Redgrave in the 1952 film of The Importance of Being Earnest. After joining the Stratford Memorial Company in 1952, Tutin was a key figure in the early days of the Royal Shakespeare Company (RSC) at Stratford and London's Aldwych theatre in the early 1960s. She remained with the company until 1972 and during her long career played almost all of Shakespeare's leading female roles. She also did a range of plays by Chekhov, Ibsen and Strindberg, played Sally Bowles in the London production of I Am a Camera and acted in plays by John Osborne and Harold Pinter.
