Director. Gray has worked in theatre and opera. Following his time on the Regional Theatre Young Director Scheme in 1990, Gray re-opened the Liverpool Playhouse Studio as a dedicated space for new plays from 1992-95, arranging co-productions with the National Theatre and the Royal Court. From 2000-09 he was based at the Royal Court as International Associate, then as Associate Director. In 2010 he was appointed as Artistic Director of Actors Touring Theatre (ATC).

Gray has also directed work internationally, including Paris's the Odéon Théâtre National de l’Europe and Théâtre National de Gennevilliers, the Salzburg Festival in co-production with the Schauspielhaus Hamburg, the Volkstheater Wien, the Schaubűhne am Lehniner Platz in Berlin, and Praktika Theatre in Moscow.
