Paul Rogers (1917 - 2013)

Mr Paul Rogers (Male)

Nationality: English

Born: 22 March 1917

Died: 6 October 2013

Actor. Rogers made his professional stage debut in 1938 at the Scala Theatre in Tottenham Court Road, London, playing Charles Dickens in Bird's-Eye View of Valour. He made his West End debut as Jonathan Kail in Thomas Hardy's Tess of the D'Urbervilles (1947), and on to appear in many West End and Broadway productions. Rogers spent his early career largely with the Old Vic company, first in Bristol and later in London, compiling a résumé of remarkable variety. In 1974 he joined the National Theatre at the Old Vic. He was a long-serving member of the Royal Shakespeare Company (joining in 1965), and few actors played as many major Shakespearean roles. Later he took the lead in modern works, notably TS Eliot’s last two plays, The Confidential Clerk and The Elder Statesman, Ronald Harwood's The Dresser and several of Harold Pinter's plays.
