Actor and comedian. Steed began her career at the Coventry Belgrade Theatre, and went on to work in the Royal National Theatre, the Royal Shakespeare Company and the West End. She has a long career in television. Steed was also a campaigner and activist, notably as a member of The Campaign Against Racism in the Media. In 1980, she appeared alongside Andy de la Tour and Alexei Sayle at an Equity Left Alliance benefit cabaret at the Albany Empire. In 1983, she was involved in the comedy benefit concert (at the Shaftesbury Theatre) An Evening for Nicaragua, organised by de la Tour in support of the Sandinista government.
