Actor and Director. Cartland worked as an actor with several leading repertory companies including the Bristol Old Vic and the Glasgow Citizens Theatre, as well as appearing in London's West End and at the Royal Court. He was Associate Director at the Belgrade Theatre in Coventry in 1967 as well as directing multiple productions for the Citizens Theatre in both the main auditorium and the Close Theatre. Between 1963-69 Cartland served as one of five Artistic Directors at the Citizens theatre (alongside Callum Mill, Iain Cuthbertson, David Williams, and Michael Blackemore).
