The Compartment is a 27-page unpublished screenplay written by Harold Pinter "for a film never made, planned as part of a triple-bill, Project I promoted by Grove Press, New York, with Samuel Beckett's Film [1965] and Eugène Ionesco's The Hard-Boiled Egg" (Baker and Ross 12). Only Beckett's Film was produced.

The script was telecast as The Basement on BBC Television on 20 February 1967 with the author in the role of Stott.
