This is the current location of the Orange Tree Theatre, in the converted building of a Victorian primary school. Its first production opened there in February 1991. From 1971, when it was founded to 1990, it was located across the street in rooms above the Orange Tree pub.
The Orange Tree is located in Richmond, England, and was 'founded by Sam Walters above the Orange Tree pub, now opposite the current site [...] Until 1991, the theatre [operated] from above the pub, playing mostly lunchtime performances. The audience are seated on church pews and the performances are played in daylight - not theatre lighting.' The theatre 'has had an exceptional track record in discovering writers and promoting their early work, as well as rediscovering artists from the past whose work had either been disregarded or forgotten.'
