Director and producer. Marcus is perhaps best known for his work as the producer of the award-winning television series Prime Suspect (1991-2006). Prior to his work on the show, Marcus worked primarily as a theatre director, creating a lunchtime theatre venue at the Rock Garden in Covent Garden in 1976 before going on to work at the Salisbury Playhouse, and the Mermaid Theatre and the Roundhouse in London. In 1983 Marcus joined the Royal Shakespeare Company (RSC) as an assistant director where he ran the Not the RSC festival at the Almeida theatre, a short programme of work consisting of play readings and pieces created by company members. In 1986 he joined BBC TV as a script editor and, after completing the BBC directors' course, would go on to direct and produce multiple shows both for the BBC and ITV and in film.
