Born: 29 October 1969

Playwright, screenwriter and director. Farr has worked extensively in television and theatre and in film. In 1995 he became Artistic Director of the Gate Theatre, London, until he left, in 2002, to become Artistic Director of the Bristol Old Vic. In 2005, Farr took up the post of Artistic Director of the Lyric Theatre, Hammersmith in London. In 2009, he left the Lyric to become Associate Director of the Royal Shakespeare Company. His first productions, The Winter's Tale, King Lear and The Homecoming, all opened to critical acclaim. Alongside his work in theatre, Farr works regularly as a writer for film and television and is best known for his work on BBC's Spooks and his first feature film, Hanna (2011). In 2016 his adaptation of John le Carré's novel The Night Manager, starring Hugh Laurie and Tom Hiddleston, aired on the BBC and garnered multiple awards and nominations, including 3 Golden Globes for acting in 2017.
