Actor. Dignam began acting professionally in 1929 with Ben Greet's Shakespeare touring company. He became one of the first members of Equity, the actors' union, founded that very year. In the 30s he played in the West End, opened a rep in Croydon, and was at the Old Vic. Following injuring during World War II, Dignam resumed his acting career at the Arts Theatre form 1945-46 and the Old Vic between 1947-51. Dignam was a member of the Royal Shakespeare Company between 1956-1988, appearing in over 40 shows.
