Working almost exclusively in film and television since 1991, Russell is best known for his appearances in multiple British soap operas and period dramas as well as recent critically acclaimed series such as Game of Thrones (2011-) and major films such as Margaret's Museum (1995) and Thor: The Dark World (2013). Prior to much of his work on screen, Russell was a member of the Royal Shakespeare Company between 1985-1991 where he appeared primarily in non-Shakespearean productions.
