Playwright, actor, novelist and screenwriter. Harwood joined Sir Donald Wolfit’s theatre company in 1958, and was a contemporary of Harold Pinter in that company. His experience as Wolfit’s dresser became the basis for his 1980 play The Dresser. His screenplay for the film The Pianist (Roman Polanski, 2002) won him an AcademyAward. His 1995 play Taking Sides was directed by Harold Pinter.
