Actor. Withers played Meg in a semi-professional production of The Birthday Party in 1959, and the following year she was offered to reprise the role in the first television production of the play. Working at the BBC, she could not get permission to appear in the ITV drama. Encouraged by Pinter she left her job to become a professional actor. She made her professional debut in the ITV television version of Pinter’s play and subsequently appeared in numerous British television series and films over the next 40 years, including parts in Coronation Street, Z Cars, The Bill, Casualty and Secrets and Lies (Mike Leigh: 1999) shortly before her death.
