Actor. Baptiste worked in film, television and theatre. He was born in British Guiana (now Guyana). After moving to England in 1950 he studied opera and then worked his way into the theatre industry through early incarnations of Joan Littlewood's Theatre Workshop and a two-year run in Dublin and the West End of Noël Coward's Nude with Violin, with John Gielgud, Patience Collier and Kathleen Harrison (Wikipedia). In 1963, Baptiste played one of the first significant non-white characters in the long-running ITV soap opera, Coronation Street (The Stage).
