Hollis had a career on the stage before being cast in a number of science fiction films including Superman (Richard Donner, 1978), Flash Gordon (Mike Hodges, 1980), and The Empire Strikes Back (Irvin Kershner, 1980). In the last of these, he played the mute role of Lando Calrissian's right-hand man Lobot, a character that wore a cyborg implant around his head and over his ears.
