Author. Born Iris Wilkinson in Cape Town, and brought to Wellington as a baby, Robin Hyde became one of New Zealand’s most significant writers of poetry, fiction and journalism. She was the first New Zealander to be included in Macmillans’ Contemporary Poets series. As a journalist, she did much to challenge the boundaries of women’s writing. In the late 1930s, she travelled to the China-Japan war front, the first woman journalist to do so.
