New Vic Theatre (Est. 1986)

New Vic Theatre

Etruria Road, Newcastle-under-Lyme, ST5 0JG, England

Date Opened: August 1986

'The New Vic Theatre in Newcastle-under-Lyme, Staffordshire, England, is a purpose-built theatre in the round which opened in 1986, replacing a converted cinema, the Victoria Theatre, Hartshill, Stoke-on-Trent.' (Wikipedia) The New Vic Theatre was formerly the Victoria Theatre. 'Under the leadership of founding Director, the late Peter Cheeseman, the Vic company earned an international reputation through its pioneering work in creating verbatim, musical documentaries. [...] In 1983 an appeal was launched to raise funds for a new theatre. [...] the New Vic opened in August 1986. After twenty-five years work dedicated to the people of North Staffordshire, Cheeseman’s passion and determination finally achieved the realisation of Stephen Joseph’s vision: the first purpose-built theatre-in-the-round in Europe.'
