Set in Panama City, the novel focused on Harry Pendel, a British expatriate who runs a bespoke tailoring business, a life made possible by the skills he learned in prison. He partners with Andy Osnard, a young British MI6 agent who uses his intelligence-gathering mission to further his own agenda. Together, they create a fictitious network of revolutionaries which eventually attracts the attention of the US and UK governments. The novel's plot sees Harry's lies unravel as Panama is invaded and its government toppled.
