Actor. Gambon worked extensively in television, theatre and film and in radio and voiceover. Born in Ireland, he relocated to England to apprentice as a toolmaker and in 1962 began working as a professional actor. Early on Gambon worked in the National Theatre Company, under Lawrence Olivier, and then left to work with the Birmingham Repertory Company. He became a prominent name during the 1970s and is widely known for his relationship with Harold Pinter and his work. He was nominated for Best Actor of the Year in a New Play in the Oliviers in 1979 for his role in Betrayal, and for Best Actor for his 2001 role as Davies in The Caretaker, and again in 2009 for his role in No Man's Land.
