Born: 29 October 1935

Actor. Following his training at Guildhall School of Music and Drama, Jayston appeared in repertory theatre, firstly in Bangor, Northern Ireland (1961), then Salisbury (1962-63) and the Bristol Old Vic (1963-65) before joining the Royal Shakespeare Company (RSC) until 1969. As well as a prolific career in voiceover work (including narrating all of John le Carré’s audiobook novels), Jayston is perhaps best known for his appearances on screen in television shows like Quiller (1975), Tinker Tailor Soldier Spy (1979) and Doctor Who (in 1986), or television films of Shakespeare's A Midsummer Night's Dream (Demetrius, 1968), The Merchant of Venice (Gratiano, 1973) and King Lear (Edmund, 1975).
