Ronald Percival

Mr Ronald Percival (Male)

Nationality: English

Born: Unknown

Childhood friend of Harold Pinter, upon whom the character of Pete in Pinter's novel The Dwarfs was based. Semi-autobiographical in nature, the novel charts the disintegration of their friendship. An intellectual and romantic rival, Percival remained in touch with Pinter for much of his life though the pair did not maintain a close friendship. Henry Woolf noted Percival's anti-Semitic tendencies in his biography, including Holocaust denial [Woolf, p. 61]. Pinter captured a portrait of Percival in his unpublished biographical prose piece Queen of all the Fairies (Billington, pp. 33-4).
