Stage, television and film actress. Varma's stage career has been centred in London, with work at the National Theatre, The Royal Court and the Donmar Warehouse. She has had an extensive career in film and television, and is known to international audiences for her performance as Ellaria Sand in seasons 4 to 7 of Game of Thrones (HBO, 2011-9). She has been cast in numerous productions of Pinter's work since 2000, when the author cast her in the premiere of his Celebration at the Almeida in 2000. She was involved in quick succession within the year in a number of other Pinter productions: she joined the author in the cast of a radio broadcast of Moonlight before ending the year in the large cast of Remembrance of Things Past. In 2001 she was cast opposite Pinter in One for the Road at the Ambassadors Theatre. She has been involved in a number of Pinter productions since. She reminisces on her professional relationship with him in this interview, conducted for the Pinter Legacies project.
