Barry Foster (1931 - 2002)

Mr Barry Foster (Male)

Nationality: English

Born: 21 August 1931   Confidence Level

Died: 11 February 2002

Stage, television, film and radio actor. Barry Foster met Harold Pinter at the Central School of Speech and Drama in 1951, and the two men became life-long friends. Foster began his working life as a plastics chemist before he set his sights, in the late 1940s, on the stage. In a career that spanned 50 years he brought a dry humour, imaginative stillness and powerful sensibility to scores of roles on stage, screen and television. Although he could flourish in satirical parts, he also successfully interpreted classical characters with an arresting vigour. Foster was, however, more in his element in the plays of Harold Pinter, such as 'The Basement' and 'Tea Party' (Duchess 1970), in which his readiness to keep still for long periods paid rich dramatic dividends.
